Having Trouble Not Dropping F*Bombs

I recently moved out of Arizona. My plates expired in June, but since I moved out of state my insurance was no longer recognized by AZ DOT therefore they sent me notice that my plates would invalidated in 15 days.

I ran around to the Colorado DMV and plated all the vehicles last week. Today I sat down to get my refunds. According to the website I was due about $7 between the 00 Jeep and 99 F250 and a whopping $122 from the van.

Only thing is: "Moving out of state is not eligible for a refund, according to Arizona law."

You must sell, trade-in, or complete the lease on a vehicle to get your money back. As the nice lady on the phone iterated: "You can't get a refund. By law, by moving out of state you've donated that money to the Arizona DOT."

I'm having a very hard time remaining civil.

Move to California sometime if you want to see extreme examples of state bureaucracy in action.

Case in point: I bought a vehicle in Texas in 2003. It was an old POS Dodge minivan I bought for around $4K cash to haul stuff in. I registered it in KS in 2005, then moved it again to CA in 2007. When I got to register it in CA, they wanted to know the original purchase price I paid in TX.

They charged me the difference between the TX sales tax and the CA sales tax, on a purchase made 4 years prior! Same thing later when I bought a new minivan in AZ (long story) and drove it to CA.

Thieving bastards, every last one of them.

I just pay whatever they ask and move on. You can't gain anything by swearing other than a few points of BP.

And don't even get me started on property tax....
