Heading to Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego

So...as die-hard Boise State Bronco fans, we're heading to San Diego for the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 23rd. Right now we're planning to stay fairly near Qualcomm Stadium at the San Diego RV Resort off I-8 and with access to the trolley line.

We'll have Sat. afternoon through Tues. morning to explore the area and wondered if anyone has suggestions on how we might spend our time, good places to eat, etc... Thanks for the help!

The Gas Lamp district is fun to explore, Coronado island is also good, but my favorite area is the Old Town San Diego area. There's at least two really good Mexican restaurants there. One has a great rotisserie chicken (you can see a whole rack of them from the window to the restaurant), and the other has a front patio where a lady hand makes their tortillas. I could make a meal just with those tortillas.

I 2nd Herbs recommendations.
Leave the SMB parked and take the trolley to old town and the gas lamp area. The Trolley is faster, safer, and cheaper.

Don't forget the Zoo in Balboa Park. You can spend a few hours or up to a few days there. There are other museums and attractions in Balboa Park as well. Parking the SMB in Balboa Park is pretty easy.

Now if you like Golf ... you are in heaven.

We have spent a lot of time in San Diego for the Holiday Bowl in the past.

If you can take the trolley into Old Towne and the Gas Lamp district you will find plenty of good places to eat.

I think we enjoyed Old Towne more than the Gas Lamp district.

There are a couple of places that make fresh tortillas and sell them on the sidewalk. There is also a place that sells all kinds of Root Beer; it was fun to sample there. There were a couple of walking tours of Old Towne that are fun; one was a Ghost Tour at night, very entertaining.

You can also use the trolley to get you close to the bay where are there are a couple more nice places to eat. We took a whale watching tour one year as well. It may be a couple of weeks early right now, but they should be able to see if the watching network has seen any heading south.

The Trolley to and from the game is also the way to go.

If the game is at night, be prepared for the cold wet foggy air to roll in and cool things off more than you might expect.

The La Jolla area is beautiful; particularly the views of the cove at Ellen Browning Scripps Park & Mt. Soledad. There is great sea kayaking in the cove too. I enjoyed a dinner at dusk here http://www.georgesatthecove.com/ocean-terrace/ The sunset view was incredible.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! We'll be starting out on Thursday, probably in a snow storm. Oh well, at least we're taking our second home with us, along with snow tires and chains!! Wish we had 4x4!! Hopefully, we'll make it south without too much trouble.

Happy Holidays!!
