Help Sourcing Flexible, Adhesive-Backed ABS or Whatever.

I've seen this stuff used on rub areas, but can't remember where. Thin, but not too thin (guessing, but maybe. 030 to. 060 thick). I need approx 12"x24" strips to run along radiused corners (automotive, exterior use). Hard to explain, but I bet one of you what I'm talking about. Driving me nuts because I know I've had something that used something like that, but I'm at a loss. Thanks!

Is this what you're looking for, adhesive backed butyl tape?

Now that I read it again, I don't think what I listed is what you're looking for.

I think you're looking for the screen protector type material.

Think I may have found it. 3M aerospace tape: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/c ... eading.php

Seems like I had something similar on my Sport's roof, where it mated to the penthouse seal when closed.

At $200 for the 6" stuff, I'd better get a sample first. Ouch!

Were you looking for Helicopter Tape?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QC ... 9SV5S37N69

It is a tape that stands up on the leading edge of a helicopter blade.

Re: Help Sourcing Flexible, Adhesive-Backed ABS or Whatever.

Sportsmobile's store sells something for the rub areas of the van where the penhouse hits. It's Avery UHA (or so marked; couldn't find that anywhere online). It's got a rough surface, unlike the ones mentioned. The helicopter tape is pretty tough, I expect. I used a type of aluminum tape, which has lasted quite a while, although now due to come off.

I found I didn't want anything at all rough cuz it started to erode the penthouse rubber. I may just leave it; regular use of the van seems to rub out any rust anyway.

Re: Help Sourcing Flexible, Adhesive-Backed ABS or Whatever.

I have a partial roll of the Avery UHA tape that I bought from SMB West several years ago. I never used it for the PH because I Line-X'ed the roof. But it is only 1.5 " wide. I don't consider it rough surfaced though like the one comment mentioned. This has a smooth finish. If you want a sample to see if it is a suitable material for you PM me your address and I'll send you a sample. I don't know if it is available in wider widths.

Re: Help Sourcing Flexible, Adhesive-Backed ABS or Whatever.

Hi PatO,
Your partial roll is it enough for a penthouse top?
If yes and you think of selling it I would be interested.
As I am staying at Deminimis place he would see the sample at the same time...

Re: Help Sourcing Flexible, Adhesive-Backed ABS or Whatever.

I think it was sold as enough for a penthouse but I've been consuming it on other things. Probably only 3/4 (guess) left so sorry. I could measure it but quite sure it would be short. From SMB the full roll was about $50 as I recollect and I would think would still be available.
