Kinda off-topic but it’s about #vanlife. I watched a NYT video demo on filming Free Solo, the documentary on Alex Honnold’s free climb of El Cap. Out of curiosity, I looked him up in Wikipedia and found this entry on his vanlifestyle:
Honnold has lived in a van for over a decade. "I don't think 'van life' is particularly appealing," he says. "It's not like I love living in a car, but I love living in all these places. I love being in Yosemite; I love being basically wherever the weather is good; I love being able to follow good conditions all over. And be relatively comfortable as I do it. And so that pretty much necessitates living in a car ... If I could, like, miraculously teleport a house from place to place, I'd prefer to live in a nice comfortable house. Though, honestly, the van is kind of nice. I like having everything within arm's reach. When I stay in a hotel room––like, sometimes you get put in a really classy hotel room, and it's really big, and you have to walk quite a ways to the bathroom, and you're like, 'Man, I wish I had my [pee] bottle.' Who wants to walk all the ways to the bathroom in the middle of the night when you could just lean over and grab your bottle and go?"
While we haven’t done a full time decade, I know how it feels to rattle around the house when you come home after an extended trip.

Every day I get older I realize how underrated the pee bottle is.

My bro-in-law and I both recently picked up a couple vans, (his is the white NV, mine the black Express), and we have already begun to get a bunch of comments...and we haven't even got the good stuff on them yet, (racks, etc.)

Two nice rigs! Let’s hear more about them. Those NVs are pretty cool when done right and obviously I’m a GM fan.

They are both 2wd, alas, but were purchased as kid-haulers to begin with. That said, mods are inc to make them more adventure friendly, (roof racks, roof tents, bumpers, etc).

Hauling kids is a noble duty for a vehicle. That’s what initially got me into a van. Congrats in the purchase and welcome to the forum.

They're not minivans, so that's already a victory in my book.
