Jackson Hole - how's the skiing?

We are going to be rolling through Jackson Hole in a few days - possibly the 22, 23, or 24... how is the skiing? Any tips on where to park for the night?

Meg and Dave

I'd like to get over that way to ski sometime. Are there any ways to ski cheap at the resort? I suppose not.

Is the backcountry skiing safe/accessible for someone with no knowledge of the area?

Since the OP's van appears to be named "blanca" it's probably a white one.

If I know in advance most times I can get you a free pass or 2 for The Village Resort to ski free. there is some back country like the top of the pass that you would have no problem with knowing the area but that's about it.

it snowed 22in Tuesday. I skied knee and waist deep powder yesterday!!.

Nice! Reality is I probably won't get over there before this season is over. But i'd like to try to make it a priority for next year. I've heard a lot of good things about Jackson.

I've had some pretty great Pacific NW powder days, but from my understanding, it's nothing like some good continental pow. I've only skied outside Oregon a few times, once in Idaho and twice in Colorado, never managed to catch it on a powder day though.

The wife and I were thinking of looking at Bend this summer as a possible relocation place.. Closer to her mother and lower elev.

Re: Jackson Hole - how's the skiing?

It's pretty nice. I love it here for the most part. I do get tired of it being winter until june sometimes, but i suppose you must be used to that. And of course there is plenty of snowplay to do. We don't have BIG mountains, but we do have mountains. It's helpful to have a snowmo if you want to do a lot of backcountry. The air is dry, doesn't rain much at all, no poison oak, no fleas, not a lot of thorny things, not a lot of obnoxious underbrush, hard to garden without a greenhouse or hoophouses. Not too much snow in town. Incredibly good music and food for a town this small. Lots of lakes and rivers. Lots of hiking and mt biking. Summer is absolutely amazing! Both months of it! :-)

Better have work lined up BEFORE you come here though. It is not easy right now.

Re: Jackson Hole - how's the skiing?

Hmmm... sounds like a mini homebuild get-together in little ol' Bend OR could be in the works this summer? As long as the route involves a pitstop at Sisters Bakery I'm in.

The mention of that place makes my mouth water!

And of course Ron, get in touch when you're coming here, and we can offer up some hospitality!
