Larrie

Hey guys, one of our senior members Larrie, from the Portland area, had a heart attack this morning. I got a random email saying he was ok but his wife Anne took him to the hospital very early this morning and he was going to be ok. That's all I know. I think it was a group email to his whole address book probably.

Anyway, Larrie is a wonderful person and valued member here. He asked me to spread the word in a later email.

Hang in there Larrie!

Best wishes being sent for Larrie.

I lost my oldest brother a little over a month ago (pulmonary embolism) so family and friend's health has been on my mind more than ever. If there's any additional communication, please let me know if Larrie or his family needs anything.

I will try to pass on anything I hear but I'm hoping he'll latch on to this thread and keep us posted. I've been pretty swamped at work.

Thanks for the update. I live in Portland and if anyone needs me to drop anything or whatever send me a PM. Godspeed Larrie for quick recovery and no long term issues. In my prayers.

Thanks for your kind words and thoughts. They are appreciated. Just got home this afternoon and am feeling good although a little tired from lack of sleep in the hospital. Hospitals are not a place to go to rest. There is always someone coming in to do something to you. The worst was the 4 am blood draw.

Was pretty calm and relaxed through the whole adventure. It started with acute sudden indigestion and gas as I was about to eat lunch. Took a homeopathic to reduce the gas but the pain at the top of my stomach kept getting worse. Asked my wife to take me to the emergency room. They were getting organized to treat me for a gastrointestinal issue when the guy running the EKG machine showed the print out to the doctor. She said stop what you’re out are doing we are dealing with a heart attack. They bundled me off to a regional cardiac unit in another hospital. The ambulance ride was quick even though it was rush hour traffic. They got me into a operating room with a 106” TV and the team of six or eight technicians got me ready for the doctor to run a stent up my right arm. He watched the procedure on the TV screen. The right blood vessel to my heart was mostly closed. After the procedure I went into critical care for two days and then home today.

The right jblood vessel to the heart is the one you want to have a heart attack from. The two others are much more life threatening.

The monitor in my room that I was hooked up to kept track of my heart rate, blood pressure, and my breathing. One of the more amusing things was that the monitor kept going into alarm for my breathing. They could not figure it out. I realized that my chanting the word HU, an ancient name for God, was messing up the reading. It was expecting normal length breaths and I was exhaling, as I chanted, for about 30 seconds.

The staff was very helpful and treated me well. To my surprise the food was excellent and I got to order whatever I wanted off the menu. Had grilled salmon and rice both nights.

My only limitation is to not lift anything over 5 pounds with my right arm for the next two weeks. So no wrenching. Will see the cardiologist in three weeks and find out more about the meds they are prescribing and their side effects.
