MAP ?
Jage,
What do you think about a map that shows the geographic locations of members?
It would be nice to know where other members live and when we might be travelling close to someone.
...and we might know who to contact for recommendations for the area...
.

When I had my Westy I was involved with a web site were members would offer up there driveways to fellow traveling Westy owners.
That was pretty cool .

I was thinking of something that wuould just show distributions geographocally by city.
I was not suggesting anything that would involve anything more finite than city.
...but that could certainly facilitate knowing who to talk to about areas of intrest, restaurants, and maybe even driveways.

The BMWMOA (BMW Motorcycle Owners of America) club has a book they call the 'Anonymous'.
It lists members by location (city, state), phone #, and services they offer to other members (KK - Coffee and Conversation, Workspace, campspace, tools, mechanical help, emergency only, etc.). When I traveled by motorcycle, I always carried this with me. A couple of time I called people for advice in finding local facilities, a couple of times I needed help. And you could locate friends in the book and note the names next to the listing.
No names, but still a way to get help and you knew what kind of help they could and would offer. Great tool!
We could do a similar listing. Maybe linked to blips on the map of where we are located. A red blip, a member - no services, a green blip, a member with services - click on the blip for details.
Ok, that sounds like a real challenge to put together.

A map would be great. I use picasaweb and if you put the location of the album in it shows your albums on a nice world map so you can see all the places you've taken photos.
The first thing to do would be point me to some free software, preferrably that works with PHPbb that does what you want.

Also, I think the "Wander The West" site has a member map sign-up, but I can't find it now.
