I actually think the guy was brilliant, maybe juvenile, but brilliant. It doesn't seem to me he was taking advantage of the situation by running up a ridiculous bill that he'd take the next 20 years to pay, I love that he put in a penalty clause to the issuing company.

I am not a lawyer (and certainly no nothing about russian contract law), but unless their laws need some reform, I suspect it became fraud and not legally binding at the point where he made it look like their form. Possibly even when he did not make them aware of the changes (this is why we, in the US at least, have the other side show that they have seen a change by initialing).
