Monolith in Utah

Anyone here going to search for the monolith that was recently discovered? Could be a fun adventure in a SMB.

2001 A Space Odyssey...

Ha! That is odd. For me, first that came to mind was an abandoned Nikola Tesla experiment, but looks too good to be 100+ years old.

Several of the Utah outdoor forums have already located the obelisk. You can see the shadow of it on Google Maps.

Apparently it is 1/3 mile off the Lockhart Basin road.

Weird. But I love weird stuff in the desert. It fuels my fire to jump in something like a 4wd van and go find it.

Since the first sighting of this thing I've been LOL'ing my tail off----HUGE props to the artist who found the wherewithall to put that thing there. The logistics an secrecy so far are pretty amazing.

Naturally I was channeling 2001: A Space Odyssey immediately, HAL can't be too far away can he?

Hilarious event, we'll know who the responsible artist is shortly I'm sure---this is just too good an advertising stunt to NOT claim.

The conspiracy theory people will certainly react to this I'm sure---'tis a ton of fun so far!!

Per Utah DPS: “It is illegal to install structures or art objects without authorization on federal lands, no matter which planet you come from.”

A monument to someone's monumental ego. Where does it end? Stacking rocks, graffiti, carving up trees... the last thing I want to see in the backcountry is someone else's crap, however clever. Should have asked for a special use permit at least. How long before this place gets trashed from overuse? Rip the damn thing out.
