This guy is supposedly dead now but it's hard to imagine he didn't kill any innocent bystanders first.

Motorsport movies/documentaries. Discuss:
I forgot to mention the obvious "Long Way Round" and "Long Way Down" series. Not really racing related though... And they have more money and support vehicles than brains, but I'm still jealous nonetheless.
On an even more unrelated note, I really enjoy all the Ray Mears series... He has such an interesting no-nonsense take on survival and history. I'm sure a lot of people on these forums would enjoy them as well even if they aren't Motorsport related. |

Thanks. I'll check that out. I forgot to mention that I worked my way throught the 1.5 hours of Camel Trophy history on Youtube over the last week or so. It's pretty good, especially the earlier stuff. Looks like Rover bowed out about the time it turned into another reality TV series. Good for them.

FYI, Netflix now has Dust to Glory, my favorite race movie ever.

Great post scotty. Some really cool suggestions here. The LaLouche Rendezvous really stands the test of time. Although more narrative/biopic than documentary I really dig Heart Like a Wheel, about the female drag racing champion Shirley Muldowney. Such a cool era and a beautifully photographed film.

The World's Fastest Indian, one of my favorite motorsport movies!
Funny story about a small connection I have to that film. I was at Bonneville for the SCTA World Final event in 2002 or 03 I think it was crewing on Chet Herbert's last Bonneville car, this experimental rear-steer, blown alcohol Hemi streamliner, built to go 400mph+. My friend was crew chief for Chet, and had his hands full with this 'just finished' car. Lots of work, not much racing. Driving on and off of the salt each day, I noticed a car wash set up, and a bunch of movie cars, period correct for late 50's-early 60's come on and off the salt. Curious. Also a cluster of vehicles and temporary structures way out and away from the structured race pit area. In town at one of the casinos, winding down with beers and shooting pool, I struke up a conversation with some folks who look a little out of place in Wendover NV, during a land speed race weekend. Younger, slicked back hair, all of them thin and under 30. Turns out they are involved with some film, one said he heard that Anthony Hopkins was involved in the project some how. I figured "eh, another documentary being financed by a wealthy actor, that will never see the light of day, much less the inside of a movie theater..." Hmmm... I forgot about "On Any Sunday"... of which Steve McQueen was a major investor and had a pretty big on-camera part in. The next day, I jump in the tow rig and drive out to the 'compound' that's set up, about 3 miles away from the race pit area. Deserted, it looks as though I'd been taken back in time, to a scene of what a 1960's Bonneville pit area might have looked like. No one around, just cars, a tower, camo mesh netting, studio lights on stands, spread out over a 2 acre area, well away from the modern 2004 race pit and the race course. 2 years later, I hear about a new feature length movie coming out about Bonneville that stars Sir Anthony Hopkins! The rest is, as they say, history.
