New travel PC

I got a new laptop for traveling. 11.6" Acer. 4GB memory 500GB HD. 8.1. Touch screen. $249

The touch screen is something I thought I wouldn't like at all. Boy was I wrong! Especially for a travel PC. Means you don't need a mouse. Makes scrolling and jumping apps much faster.

Even an old guy can learn new tricks.

Re: New travel PC

Here you there. At first (last Friday) I hated the little ASUS I bought...at least Windows 8.1 but am coming around fast. Big learning curve though for a non-computer guy. Seems the Apple stuff is way easier to navigate but I just can't see the price for what I need. Even came with office. I would freak having to use 8.1 without a touch screen and would set it up as Win-7

Re: New travel PC

Is that the Windows 8 or Android operating system? I just picked up a Dell Venue 8 Pro Windows tablet for dirt cheap. I've never been a big fan of Windows 8 until I actually used it on a tablet. Now I understand why Microsoft did what they did. I wouldn't want to work all day on it, but it is perfect for travelling.

Re: New travel PC

Windows 8.1

So, I can use it as a tablet (not really getting it) or as a PC (old school, like me).

Re: New travel PC

I got a refurb Acer with about the same specs for about the same price; an i5. Aces. I have a Macbook Pro too, but sometimes it's nice to have a piece of kit that isn't gonna bankrupt you if it's stolen or gets dropped in the two-holer. Perfect for copying images off SD cards for archiving, and it even runs Lightroom respectably. A lot easier to use for many things than my iPad, and man you can't beat the price. Check out newegg's eBay store; they often have a bunch of units like this.

Re: New travel PC

I won a Surface Pro 2 from work and hated it the first few days but now it is growing on me and the screen is much better along with the sound quality compared to the Ipad. We watched a movie last night on the flat screen and it seemed clearer then from the Ipad. the panoramic photo it takes is amazing but nit sure how to send it. you can stand in one spot and get everything around you from your feet to the stars. It then stitches it all together and as you move the tablet its like you are at that spot.
