Nissan Titan with 5.0L TD Cummins

Wonder if they might eventually offer this option for the NV vans?

thats weird. seems like most trucks everywhere but here are diesel powered and we get the gas powered versions. wonder why nissan doesnt just one of thier own diesel powerplants. not that having the cummins is a bad option for nissan. will definitely boost some sales.

How much of the rest of the world requires diesel engines to meet our emission laws? How many diesel (or gas) engines can meet our laws?

Re: Nissan Titan with 5.0L TD Cummins

Stupid question time ..

For Cummins why a V8 and not a straight 6? Does it cost more to build a straight 6? Is it easier to tame emissions on a V8? Is a diesel V8 is lighter? Would a diesel V8 fit easier into the engine bay?

Anyways, I was just wondering .. thanks for any insight.

It is possible a straight six is too long to fit the engine bay. I don't know, I've never looked at a Nissan "van" and don't intend to start now.

I'm sure Dodge wouldn't be too happy with a Nissan I6 diesel..... but who knows. The next gen Titan was supposed to be a re badged Dodge, interesting how things have changed.

It's marketing. Nissan make a whole variety of diesel engines and have been doing so for decades. Not too many V8's in the real commercial engine world. Look under a semi sometime...

It's mostly a packaging constraint. Semi's can have longer engine compartments, but they all have 34" wide frame rails since that is what every other component has been standardized to. WHen you get bigger that OTR trucks, you start seeing V-motors again especially in the marine and mining markets.
