Peru?

Anybody post this here? I had been following this blog, (don’t know how I came about it) and as I caught up on it, in the middle the blog jumped a couple of weeks to a late Dec early Jan post. Although it kind of ruined the continuity of the blog, I was amazed (well maybe not) on what happened to these folks. Here is the link to the blog and like web logs work, to get the story you have to start at the end which is the beginning of the trip, so if you want to breeze over the adventure start here:

http://adventureamericas.wordpress.com/

If you want to see the problems they encountered read this:

http://adventureamericas.wordpress.com/ ... e-in-peru/

Today Show interview:

Guess it kinda went viral on the web.

Dave,
I read about this over on Expo Portal's forum. What a complete mess. Getting out alive is the silver lining.....and if there has to be a silver lining, that is the one you want.

I found some of the monday morning QBing and finger wagging over on Expo Portal from a few blowhards to be totally moronic. They were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. I can happen to anyone.

Re: Peru?

Hate to say it, but you end up in the wrong neighborhood, or wrong backroad in a few places in the US, something along the same lines could happen here too. Hopefully not to that same extent, but it's possible.

Re: Peru?

I had lost the link for a few weeks and heard about the today show interview. During the search for the video I found all the hate Peru crap some of it by camper sights and people who don't even have the correct vehicle for such a trip. A few even wondered if it was a scam for money. Myself I have no want to do a trip down there but no matter where you travel to I do understand knowing where not to go can be valuable. IMO, some of the adventure is doing things that are kinda dangerous...
Sometimes sh-- just sneaks up on you. They were lucky.

Re: Peru?

I really enjoyed our trip to Peru. Great people, good food and a lot of fantastic sites to see. Been in that village, but we were in a small group (14) with a local guide and bus driver. I don't hink I would try to boondock in a place where I don't know the local customs.

That’s really interesting Mike. So you toured the village? Is it possible that a couple villagers could roust the rest of the community into such a state? I actually though this was some way out of the place area that never saw visitors. Seems like it started off as more of a robbery, then turned into a nightmare on Elm Street.

Re: Peru?

While I think the story is credible, we do only have one side of the story.

Re: Peru?

In remote villages high in the mountains the natives can have some ancient customs. It is possible they actually violated a sacred place without knowing it. Or, some other campers had come through recently and severely offended the locals. Maybe the they or the truck looked the same to the townspeople. I doubt we will ever know.

I wouldn't mind going back to Peru; it was a great trip.
