I'm using an Android Samsung tablet with GAIA. I discovered my tablet has a GPS receiver built in to the tablet, so no need for a separate receiver. I also discovered my old S4 mini phone also has a built in GPS receiver. I tried Backcountry Navigator but found it difficult to download larger map areas. I like GAIA best so far and I have the premium membership which provides access to a larger selection of maps. For the Western Roaming Rally I found the Canada West Topo is equal to USGS topo maps with excellent detail. It takes a massive amount of memory to download large map areas in full zoom (15 zoom level) so it's best to find the zoom level that provides adequate detail for your purposes. Hope this helps. -Bill

As you purchased it for your iPhone, you can install it on your iPad. I don't know if it works for a premium membership but I did it on my iPhone/iPad.

I see what you guys mean about the amount of memory used to store the maps. After reading your posts I went back and played around with the app. I didn't notice it at first, but then I saw the little window that shows how much memory it will take to store the map for the size of the area I'm capturing.
I'll know more after I get out and use it a bit, but I might need to upgrade my I-Pad.

As already said, if you go with Gaia GPS, choose the Gaia Topo Maps. It’s a vector map rather the raster format of all others and it's about 7 to 9 times lighter than all other...

While doing a little digging around for some info. on the GAIA GPS app. I found a 178 page User Manual from May of 2017. I've only glanced through it but it appears to cover just about all the features of the app. It's in PDF form and too large to attach here. If anyone wants a copy, I can e-mail it to you.
