RIP Mountainbikeroamer

Some of you may know this already but I thought I would put out an official thread. A month or two ago we lost one of our awesome and colorful members Mike Torpey, AKA Mountainbikeroamer.

If you remember when he was an active poster Mike had a lot of personality, with wordy and hilarious emoji filled posts that were always fun to read.

I got the news from another member that he succumbed to a disease unrelated to covid, cancer or the more common stuff. It took him down quickly this past year. Mike was also known as 'honky_pix' [IG name corrected] on Instagram, the name alone showing his quirky sense of humor. His account is still active and worth checking out to celebrate his memory.

Mike was also a successful automotive designer for Kia.

RIP Mike, you'll be missed!

In case some folks here didn't know..... Mike Worked for Kia as an industrial designer........the Kia Soul was conceptualized and designed by Mike.

He Worked in Detroit for Cadillac before that and had some stunning Cadillac concept designs around a 12 cylinder engine that Cadillac never produced.

Condolences to his family.....he will be missed....

Very unfortunate, It's contributions from "good people" like him that made/make this Forum valuable, interesting, and special. Condolences to the Family...and all of us.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Mike early last year. Super cool guy, easy to talk to, funny, humble. He never led on that he was such an accomplished designer. I had no idea...all he said was that he "worked at Kia".

I heard the news through one of Mike's family members (they were trying to figure out what was in a box that I had shipped him). I don't think they were aware of Mike's presence here. I'll forward a link to this thread to them.

I met Mike a few times.....first time in Irvine and I asked him to bring his portfolio.....stuffed with cool concept cars..one was a surf van concept from Kia..totally cool...

..and a number of Cadillacs with super long hoods kinda gangster 30's throwback stuff only completely modernized.

Mike and his GF also went to a few of the meet-ups that Brian Blair hosted in Silverado Canyon.....and I'm sure a number of local So Cal members have met him there.
