Searching to rent a place to work on a van for 1-2 months

After reading lot's of valuable information on the forum, I made in november a 2 week trip to the west coast to see some vans and converters.
It took time but was usefull and I am buying a 2009 van that will need to be outfitted for travelling.
I am not sure if I will have it done or do a partial, full homemade project as I didn't find something that fits my requirements until now. Still looking

That's where you can help me.

In case I go for the homemade project, I will need, starting march, for 1-2 months a covered place to work on the van.
Do you have or know someone or a company that would rent such a place?

As the van is located in Portland, Oregon, the easiest would be nearby but I do not have any tie down so any location on the West coast could be of interest.

Thank you in advance for your input or advice,

Andrew

Re: Searching to rent a place to work on a van for 1-2 months

Wish i could help buddy but no covered spot that will hold a smb

ya might look at "storage" places

they rent small to large places
SOME would allow you to use as a "workshop" as long as it is not a business

just looked up "public storage" in portland
they have a 10 foot x 25 foot unit w/ roll up door for $250 per month
the trick would be finding one that will let you work on the rig

the "chain" stores may not, shoot them an email
but the owner occupied or smaller ones would i am sure
turn a blind eye for a couple of months

also try : http://portland.craigslist.org/
you can search for a space to rent and put up an ad also
i am betting that CL will work for ya

worth a few emails

best

more CL
http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/apa/1534299836.html

bet you could cut a deal with the TON of un rented commercial space around
as an owner i would be more than happy w/ a few dollars while you built out a rig

the commercial space around here is sitting vacant
cant be any better in Portland......

I have a super-tall garage, but a super-tiny door. Wish I could offer you space. However! If you need anything in Eugene, Oregon (about two hours down I-5 south of Portland) let me know. Happy to give crash space, etc.

Re: Searching to rent a place to work on a van for 1-2 months

Hmmm.

Andrew -- if you can stay in Oregon to do your work, that is good, since you will not be charged sales tax for your materials, and finding welders ("fabricators"), etc in the rural areas is fairly easy (and at better prices than California.)

Isn't there a van customizer near Quadvan? Name something like Performance Vans? I've been wondering about using them, someday, for a custom conversion after Quadvan....eventually....

You may be able to find space in some rural areas right around Portland like Molalla or Sandy or Boring.

Tools. Hmmm.

Joel -- does Eugene have a "Tool Lending Library" like Berkeley does? It's great -- members can check out the tools they need for a few days.

Or does either Eugene or Portland have a workshop-for-rent-by-the-hour sort of facility? Denver has a great one, called "Club Workshop" http://www.clubworkshop.com/ with wonderful powertools and facilities.

(I sure wish Austin had such a place -- I'm trying to do a van build sneakily from an apartment....)

Re: Searching to rent a place to work on a van for 1-2 months

Andrew,
I live in Beaverton, OR (it is a suburb of Portland) but unfortunately do not have a garage big enough for a sportsmobile. I do have some woodworking tools. Following up on the previous thread, there is a tool library in Portland. http://www.northportlandtoollibrary.org/ . Like I said, can't really offer you any space, but you can certainly pm me with a list of tools you would be looking to use.

In any event, it would be nice to stop by and say hi, and check out your rig. I will check some of the local adds for space.

Greg

Oops, yes. That's the place in Portland. Performance Vans is elsewhere, but I can't quite remember....

It's good to hear that Portland has a Tool Library!
