That is neat. There is a flume here in the gorge that is really cool to explore. In a lot of places you can walk on the top of it even though it is 75+ years old. It goes along the Washington side of the Columbia River and most people totally miss that it is there. I try to imagine building a log flume out of the mountains back then and it is mind boggling. People nowadays have lost some tenacity that used to permeate the west.

To explore the flume you go over the Hood River bridge or drive up the Washington side. On the west side of the tunnel there is a pull out and you can reach the flume from there. It starts way up in the mountains and drops into the Klickitat river at the Columbia. I'll see if I can dig up some pictures.
