Re: This one is for daveb...

Big story on NPR on them the other day. They are trying to start using them for a food source.

OK, I'll say it first. Taste like chicken.

Asian carp, came in the ballast tank of a ship in the Great Lakes. No limits - Some states are actually putting a huge bounty on them just to get rid of them as they are wiping out the local breeds. Boat motors drive them nuts!

A friend of mine in Illinois had his ocular orbit bones broken by taking about a 15# fish in the face at about 30 MPH...
Are they any good to eat? If not, can they be made into cat food? I take it there isn't any local natural predator for them.

Re: This one is for daveb...

They are carp. The place where my buddy shot that film is a highwater chute from an oxbow lake feeding into the Mississippi River. The chute is wide and shallow, growing lots of vegetation early in the Spring. This is why they are concentrated there. Carp are vegan.

The food question is a good one. I don't know anyone who has ever tried to eat one... they have a reputation for being very bony and "muddy" tasting. That's the reputation. After 8 or 10 Busch's they might taste pretty good after all!
