I agree that the cosmetic part is a big part of it, but my experience in adding some lift to my stock height GM Quigley is that the ride was improved. After lift the the CV axles in the front ended up almost perfectly horizontal and it gave some room off the bump stops. Before, I actually had a situation where the front cv shafts where pointed up and there wasn't enough room to travel down.

I would also suggest SUMO/SUPER spring bump stops for the front in place of the factory units. A cheap and easy way to add a little dampening after you lift. The bump stops are actually a fairly important part of the suspension on these. And again, spend a little to get the custom tuned fox shocks. I'm very happy with how mine rides even as a daily on pavement driver not to mention forest roads, washboard, to semi aggressive articulated scenarios.

I have a 3” lift and 33’s and I think the proportion is just right.

I'd have to agree about the proportions being right for an appealing visual. I've seen some crazy lifts on pick ups here locally that look so out of wack it doesn't appeal to.

Then again its not my vehicle so maybe I have no standing?

Otter, I love the sound and look of your setup. All the calculators I have found estimate me poking out about 1.25 inches with 33s (2857017, 32.8") on a 8" rim with 12 offset ( the most I can find in a steel in a 17"). What kind off offset, wheel width and wheel material do you have to pull off that flush looking fit? I'd like to pull that off with my 3" lift. Thanks for any info.

These are my wheels. The pic is hard to read but it says: size 17x8.5; bolt pattern 8x6.5; offset/spacing 0/4.75”. And the tires are 285’s.

Very nice, Otter. You think if you would have done same setup except +12 offset you'd rub internal suspension? Maybe I'm splitting hairs or being ignorant with trying to minimize abnormal wear on van by trying to get as flush as possible... I thought marret was poking an inch or so and you were flush but maybe just camera angle as I think marret and Whit too have the same setup as you. Thanks otter! Great info!
