Thanks for all of the input! I tend to keep my cars a long time and my current daily driver, a '95 Miata, is in need of replacing which is why I'm thinking about getting something for around town as well as something that could be a van replacement as well. I thought about the new Tacoma but haven't been impressed with the reviews so far and wasn't thrilled with dealers around here wanting a deposit and telling me I need to be prepared to settle for what I can get since they're in demand. The Jeep has a huge aftermarket and I should be able to get parts for a long, long time.

Honestly, I should just use the van as a daily driver since I ride a bicycle most days for commuting to work as well as errands on the weekends. Definitely need to think a bit on this.

This is what works for us - we got rid of our commuter car and my wife uses the van as a daily driver when she isn't rolling the cargo bike. From an economic standpoint it doesn't pencil to have the cost of ownership of another vehicle. It becomes more of a function of whether you are OK having a bigger vehicle as a DD.

i just wrecked my first van, and i'm building another similar to it with the insurance money. it was a 15 passenger 4x4 van, with the front and rear benches removed, and a 24" tv for the kiddos in back and bangin stereo up front for the driver/passenger.

i like the utility (for us) of a 4x4 passenger van. it is great for non-camping road trips to our snow-ski shack, and other places where 4x4 is necessary. it is a 1,000 mile one-way trek from our house to our second home in CO, and the van has proven to be the most comfortable for the passengers, far more than my crew cab f250 that the van replaced.

We have used it for camping trips, although it is more of a transporter than a camper. works great in flooding weather too (which is a pretty regular occurrence where i live).

i would love to have a pop-top so it can work for my wife and i to camp it by ourselves. if we have the whole crew, 2 parents, 3 kids, and 2 dogs, we still need a tent or small travel trailer to accommodate all. i keep thinking about buying a pop-up camper trailer, or just a small fixed top model to pull with the van.

I guess my Powerball answer would be an SMB towing an expedition trailer.

Hello. I know I'm coming in on this conversation kinda late but here goes. Voice of experience. DO NOT get rid of the van!! You WILL BE SORRY!! You knew the cost(or you should have) when you signed up I suggest you get a new insurance co. I have Ameriprise (Ford) 1-800-535-2001. My SMB only costs me when I use it. $12 a month. Multi-car discount. Insurance is one of my nemesis but these people are good to me. Oh,the cost of Ca registration, just the cost of living in a state where everybody and his mother wants to live. There is worse. Try Alaska.

OK,that is that. Trailers are OK,but, pack up,break down, hook up rehook, blah, blah, blah, you get it huh You camp where it CAN camp- NOT where YOU want to camp. SMB more versatile

I don't mean to sound negative but I'm just a realistic kinda guy

Happy campin to Ya<That's Me(Bronze wheels NOT black)
