Very Functional and Affordable Awning

I purchased the Kelty Sideroads Awning to use when camping. On the first trip out we encountered heavy rain and nonstop showers for over 24 hours. The Kelty awning was perfect in every way. Super easy and quick set up. Kept us dry. We had a comfortable place to wait it out. And the best part? The awning can be had for under $150.00 dollars and is universal. Fits practically every vehicle out there.

I'm thinking of something like this. Might be kinda small for a Sprinter. Do you think you can raise the end off the ground with 5' poles and guy wires? Then you can really get under it.

I have seen pictures of this being used with a Sprinter. Your idea of using poles to elevate would work IMO. This tarp is very versatile. I had plenty of time to sit and study it during the 24 hours of rain. lol

I got a screaming deal on one at Moosejaw.com. I will be using it with my standard roof 144" Sprinter when it is finished being built out, probably two more months.

I use two (added a second bc it works so well) of these from REI, called "Beach Tents" Square lycra type material, corner rivets with elastic rope for tie downs on each corner in addition to two aluminum poles (imagine a pup style tent)...
Instead of using them as a tent, I tie them down on the SMB and then stretch them and tie down with screw in the ground leash handles or to anything handy/sturdy to form the makeshift awning...you can buy additional poles (added two taller poles)for even better options ...can be extended/held on tire rim/tire etc...They are 'break apart' aluminum poles with elastic inside, one end is a hard flat plastic piece size of a half deck of cards, and the other end is a rubber like ball to stretch into and protect fabric. Poles stay in place bc of the stretching for tautness on fabric...all breaks down into a bag size of a small backpack...$150 and $185 for the bigger one...i could only find a pic of the blue one...I'll try to find a link
