Well, I Swallowed the Bitter Pill. Adios Amigos.
After much flipping and flopping, we finally decided we needed a pickup truck more than a Sporty. Our beloved "Holy Grail" of Sportsmobiles now belongs to Josh ("Humbolt"). Happy trails young traveler, happy trails.
Yea, I know. Wife wants to haul her horses and I need to haul a boat or buggy, so a pickup makes more sense for 90% of time for us (at least that's what we're thinking). Drag is, there isn't a comparable pop-up pickup camper (not any that are truly as off-road worthy as a Sporty). Guess that's the big sacrifice. Will likely end up with a Duramax crew cab and a Outfitter Juno 8.5 camper. Yes, it even costs more, so not like we're saving money, but going in the other direction. We'll see. We might be back if it doesn't work out (pickup/camper combo).
Scatter has graciously agreed to allow us to hang out in Baja even though we won't have our Sporty.
Adios Amigos.

Very sad to hear that. Hope you still hang around. Happy travels, and by the way, welcome to the no SMB club. We will join the others one day!

Sorry to hear that Wade. You're always welcome on a run even with a pickup. No need to leave the group, your knowledge is always welcome. At least keep in touch from time to time.
Dave.

Thank for your input, happy trails with your new project.
I was impressed when I looked at the Xpcamper, a pop-upcamper for pick-up truck.
Might be of interest for you.
Andrew

Thanks Dave. Andrew, the XP is too expensive and I need a pickup bed most days. Also thinking about the Hallmark Chuchera XL. Its a hard decision.

Santa left me something under the Christmas tree (well, its so big he had to leave it under a giant redwood):
Now, time to figure out the camper part of this equation.

So Deminimis, it's a dually I take it? You need four tires in back for hauling the horses?
Happy Holidaze, even though it's a Chevy.

Re: Well, I Swallowed the Bitter Pill. Adios Amigos.
Really wanted a Duramax and Allison 6 speed. A dually can pick up rocks in Baja, so that's a minus. However, with a 2k pound camper on the back, I'll be glad that its a dually if we blow a rear tire on Mex 1. I can't belive how quiet this diesel is. Going to need a serious air compressor for airing down and up in Baja. That's a lot of tires to deal with.

You should have kept the SMB & you should have got a used PowerWagon. Stock from the factory---33" tires, 12,000lb Warn winch, electronic locking front & rear axles, electronic disconnecting front swaybar for awsome articulation,(over 600 on the RTI), 4.56 gears, Bilstein shocks, 2" lift, Alcoa forged aluminum rims w/internal beadlocks, electronic recalibration of gas pedal sensativity in 4 LO, & more.
