Being in Colorado, we’ve been immersed in all of it. The Sangres are about 8 miles from our house, yet we haven’t seen them for weeks due to the orange smoke! Add to that the feeling that I’m living through “1984”, and that about covers it!

I think its safe to say none of us will forget 2020 regardless where we live, what we do for work or just about anything else.

Yes Otter, as a fellow Oregonian...this has been unlike anything I have experienced in my 35 years living in the state. I do, however, have a weird sense of added security knowing that my Sportsmobile is packed and ready to go at a moments notice though. Perhaps a false sense of security, but as we have learned, the ability to 'bug out' isn't just reserved for the doomsday prepper crowd anymore. Living among the flammable trees, near the rising oceans, or on the windswept plains...we are all renters on this earth and subject to mother nature's often cruel eviction notice.

Haven't seen the movie, but it fits just from the title alone :~)

Ain’t that the truth! When Clackamas County got on the evac list, I was happy that we’d just camped the week before. All our stuff was still tossed in the spare bedroom and I suddenly felt very serious about gathering it all up for an evacuation trip to... where? We’d have to go pretty far to escape that smoke. It occurred to me that Michigan might be a nice place... and I hadn’t seen my sister in Connecticut for a while...

I'd be ready to bug out too if in one of the areas even remotely possible to get an evac order. Perhaps once a week I'd check the vehicle of choice, keep it stocked with essentials like drinking water and a full tank of gas. Some sort of communication device(s) with internet capability fully charged and near/in the grabbable go bag.
Here in Ohio we've not been hit with too many of these natural disasters so in that respect we feel fairly fortunate. There should be plenty of decent campgrounds that haven't been hit too significantly with closures or restrictions due COVID-19.

A friend of mine has lived on top of a hill in Carmel Valley, CA in a home he built himself many years ago. He's had a few fire scares over the years, but this year was by far the worst. His home and vehicles are all gone. Fortunately he and his wife survived. Crazy year.

All through the pandemic we have been camping with various family and friends. At least one weekend a month all year long. It's a nice respite from the news cycles to get out and camp.
Almost all of our camping is in campgrounds and many of those are KOA's. This past weekend we camped by ourselves up by Ojai CA at the Ventura KOA. That KOA normally has a lot to do for kids but many of the activities were closed due to Covid. Fortunately Lady Shadetree and I were content with the campsite we had.
For Labor day we camped out at Lake Havasu on the California side. 118 degree temps meant we lived in the water.
