Xmas Favor from you folks
Hi folks
Hope all did well and healthy in 2020
Me, still mr mom and home school
still down to tent camping ;-)
Anyway
any suggestions for a place to tent camp
2-5 hour drive from John Wayne Airport
My RV: Lexus Sedan and Kodiac Tent
so nothing too rough
Campers:
Me (dad-old as dirt), Daughter (7), and Cooper the Old Grumpy Dog (12)
395 corredor might work but colder
Anza or Mojave area better
(Newsome has the parks closed)
So down to BLM land
Any suggestions would be an AWESOME christmas gift to baby girl
all the best

Unimproved roadside camping near the Teutona Peak Trailhead and White Cross WWI War Memorial (on Cima Rd), that is right in the middle of a Joshua Tree forest. It's 4500ft, so it can get a little chilly at night, but there are fire rings so bring wood, marshmallows, and hot chocolate.
Nearby restored historic Kelso Depot is an interesting day visit, even if the inside is closed.

Since it is a developed campground, Hole-in-the-Wall CG will be closed under current restrictions.
The other suggestion near Teutonia Peak Trailhead & War Memorial is a good one. It is also referred to as Sunrise Rock on some maps and in the Primative Camping section on the Mojave NP website page linked above. Note that this area was devastated by the Cima fire earlier this year so not as scenic but the camping sites are still intact. I recently noted that there were at least 5-6 sites along the dirt road to the east, easily accessible to 2wd vehicles.

Keough Hot Spring
This thread totally motivated me for the holiday week.
The kids are off daycare/skool and we're off work. Got to go somewhere! Everything is closed but the private CGs. I called Keough Hot Springs today and they have spaces! I got one with hookups so I don't have to worry about my battery and the heater over multiple days. Maybe for you too? A space heater in a tent works wonders.

Don't forget the free hot creek a short walk from the CG:

That's great news----sounds like an amazing place for sure. I'm a bit shocked they'd still have spaces left---this being 2020 and all.
Hope this is one fabulous Christmas week for y'all!
