Thumbs down Yosemite concessionaire

https://www.outsideonline.com/2048041/who-owns-yosemite

I can't believe stuff like this. Seems the names should be considered owned by the public and the concessionaire is allowed to use the name for the businesses. Why did the park service sell the trademark in the first place?

I don't know the results but would rather see the old names used. Is there a reason why they couldn't renamed all those places with original Indian names? When I researched Yosemite to write The Old Coulterville Trail, I found most of the names were based off Indian names that were taylored to the English language. "The local indigenous tribe of Paiute Indians that occupied Yosemite Valley called it Awooni or Owwoni [Ahwahnee] and referred to themselves as the Ah-wah-ne-chee [Ahwaneechee or Awahnichi], which meant the people of the Awooni". Even the name Yosemite was changed. Why let a business get the best of the public if forced to change names. As far as the Badger Ski resort, I'll bet the Indians had a name for that area as well. In the 1920's my dad was taught that Yo Semity was the name of the park.
I flat don't like to change national park names that have been in place for years but if forced to, go back to the root names?
Maybe they'd argue the Indian names too closely match the English version? All BS IMO.

Now this one place where we could have an INTELLIGENT Executive Action and reclaim the names.

Sounds like GREEDY LAWYERS to me.

Rumor has it the old company trademarked them without anyone's knowledge. So the park service didn't ok it, hey we're just asleep at the wheel. Either way, I suspect all the publicity will straighten this out.

Just be glad it's not going to be the Pepsi Lodge and Virgin Mobile National Park!
