2009 E350 XL Superduty build

New to the forum, and just picked up a filthy 2009 E350 with 500 miles on the factory rebuilt motor. Will be doing a simple, clean build for weekending with my family of four and two dogs.

Figured I'd start a build thread to document it all. I'll be learning as I go.

Let the fun begin!

Good gravy---that is filthy! How and why did that happen?

Before beginning I'd remove all seats, the front factory floor covering, the foot well pieces, park on a nose-up attitude and hose that sucker out.

The rear A/C & heating unit should also be thoroughly cleaned inside and out, using compressed air if possible. I might be tempted to remove some cover screws and see how fouled the coils are---they're probably pretty dirty too.

We have been constantly trying to figure how on earth it got so dirty. It's truly a feat.

We've already cleaned most of it, but taking the seats and front floor liner out today. Also scraping/treating the little bit of surface rust in the back. We took out the center console for a good cleaning and will paint it with bumper/trim paint, too.

Good call on the vent unit! I'll do that.

Hard to tell from pictures, but that much dirt makes me wonder if it has been in a flood. You might want to look through the holes in the side panels and make sure the bottom of the rocker panels isn't full of dirt. Maybe check the oil in the axle to make sure it's clean.

Still, cool project, and with a new motor to boot!

I really don't think it was in a flood. There is no mold or any sign of water damage. I think it was a construction/contractor van that just wasn't loved. We're stoked to have a new motor, for sure.
