From a Bill Burke newsletter received in email.
I'll try to make the Seattle event if I can arrange the family responsibilities.

Additionally, he has an SMB-suitable class in early December in Anza Borrego coming up. 5 vehicles only.

At this point I'm planning on going to the presentation at ARB, in Renton. Is anyone else? We could make it a mini meet-up.

Peter,

I think I'll be there to help represent the SMB contingent!

Maybe we can encourage them to give some love (and attention) to the E350 series instead of the jeeps and toyotas :-)

See you there.

One of these days it'll work out that I can do one of his classes. I think his big truck class would be a lot of fun, and really helpful for me. He did his trail leader class up here this past weekend through The Northwest Overland Society. I'm really sorry I couldn't make it work. In general taking an actual class from someone who knows what the hell their doing seems like a good way to polish off the stuff you've learned the hard way, read, been told, etc.

The slide show was a kick. He's a funny guy. I can see why he's a good teacher. I can see why the presentation is still popular so many years later. I can recommend seeing it if you get the chance.

EDIT: I should mention bitburger and railbat were there as well and both mentioned organizing a get seattle/northwest together in the next few months.

The ARB guys generously offered us a hefty discount off anything they make. I was more than a little frustrated that I didn't need anything, even with my loose definition of "need."

Dave ,
The ARB was my first Failure when we got our SportsMobile and that includes the replacement
that was provided . They had worked very nicely on two of my other Vans but the SportsMobile at a loaded weight of 10,620 and 10,910 lbs. was two much to ask of this otherwise very capable piece of equipment . I incidentally weighed the van as soon as I returned home from these two separate trips .

Re: Bill Burke Camel Trophy presentation in Seattle and Portland

Thanks, I noticed it was pushing the limit on their specs. Probably not much of a market as we are the heavy weights in the 4x4 world. But it would be nice if ARB could go a little further. I've seen bags that can lift more but they are huge and too much to haul.
Again thanks.
Dave.
