One of these days it'll work out that I can do one of his classes. I think his big truck class would be a lot of fun, and really helpful for me. He did his trail leader class up here this past weekend through
The Northwest Overland Society. I'm really sorry I couldn't make it work. In general taking an actual class from someone who knows what the hell their doing seems like a good way to polish off the stuff you've learned the hard way, read, been told, etc.
The slide show was a kick. He's a funny guy. I can see why he's a good teacher. I can see why the presentation is still popular so many years later. I can recommend seeing it if you get the chance.
EDIT: I should mention bitburger and railbat were there as well and both mentioned organizing a get seattle/northwest together in the next few months.
The ARB guys generously offered us a hefty discount off anything they make. I was more than a little frustrated that I didn't need anything, even with my loose definition of "need."
