Might be a gas hog, but I got 220K really abusive miles out of an '89 (F-150 4wd) 5.8... sold it in 2003, and that wo' out POS still passes by here every couple of days... 8 years later. No smoke, no drips, no license plate/registration... the rest of the truck looks like hammered dogsh*t.
The fella feeds cows out of it... just loads the bed w/ cottonseed meal and gin trash. The cows walk all over it 'til the feed runs out and here he comes again.
