Moab VW sighting!

Outside Mag has a superficial blurb on Westies this month. Says there are only 5k in circulation, IIRC. Hence, the cost. We got $1800 in trade-in in 1991 when buying the PU for our Lance. :-(

(If we'd bought the winch, we'd make a fortune pulling cars out of the snow.)

Re: Moab VW sighting!

I had a 1988 VW Westfalia 2WD full camper, which I sold in 2005. It was a basic Westie, no real upgrades, but in very good condition. I sold it for $10,000, which was kind of a give-away price, but they don't go for as much on the east coast as they do out west.

I really loved the way it drove and the cool factor. I remember once my wife and I were pulling into Assateaque Island National Seashore, and the really cute young female ranger gushed over the VW, saying "it's so beautiful." We pulled away and my wife looked at me and said "get over it."

But it's hard to find good mechanics to work on them, and many VW dealers don't even like to work on them due to their complexity and weight.

Definitely like my SMB more...

It's hard to find mechanics to work on them because they suck to work on. They don't give the parts away either.
