Nest Under The Hood

Getting the van ready for next weekend & found this under the hood. I'm sure I've driven it while it was under there so I'm lucky it wasn't near anything that moves. It was a pain to clean up since the palm nuts were everywhere. I assume this was a rat nest? I need to drive the van more often so the critters can't get comfortable.

Nasty! Carefully check the wires for chew marks 😳

Friend said a flashing LED light or two under the hood keeps the critters away. Thinking of putting two on a switch for areas that might be prone to this.

That's nuts! I once had a mouse nest under the dog-house of my van, right on top of the transmission bell housing there's a slight depression. They didn't get anything else though just hung out there. I didn't even see any poop or anything in there, our van never sits more than a week or so without starting or camping so it couldn't have been there long.

Nest Under The Hood

I didn't see any chewed wires so I was lucky hopefully. Some of the berries dropped down where I couldn't get them but they look like they won't do any harm. There was an odor near the nest which I assume was urine. I didn't see any droppings anywhere.

Good idea on the flashing light. I was thinking a steady light under the hood but flashing sounds better. I think I could mount a couple around the van where they won't cause any issues. The van started fine so I'm good to go for the weekend.

Had a little feller that traveled around with me for eight months dropping those things on my feet...among other things. Count yourself lucky.

A pretty small space but that might also be squirrels or chipmunks
moth balls.....or, I've been known to mark my territory around the van before turning in, but that's out in the wilderness, and I try to avoid peeing on my battery, plus I'm not sure the neighbors would be so understanding if I were ticketed with indecent exposure and labeled a sex offender if caught doing that parked in front of my house....
