Re: Picked up my first SPORTSMOBILE!

I totally agree with trying things for awhile as-is. You never know.

Although now that I say that I'll just remark that that table which currently sits where a hallway porta-potti door would be? I had the same table in my SMB, which had a similar layout in the forward section, and neither I nor the previous (original) owners ever used it. Reasons were that it was so relatively large and heavy, and it just blocked all ways to walk around it when it was in place. The PO's of my rig had made a smaller/lighter table, which they used all the time, and I used sometimes.

But you'll see how you end up using things. That's half the fun

Re: Picked up my first SPORTSMOBILE!

Finally found one of the threads I was thinking of. SMB-er took a set of those long fiberglass running board/flare combos (such as is on your van) and made them into "poor man's bushwackers." Figured it might be interesting to look at:

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14910

I think I've also seen vans where the whole thing was left intact and painted black, but can't immediately call any threads to mind.

Re: Picked up my first SPORTSMOBILE!

I had those fiberglass running boards on my 98 EB and took them off. Apart from leaving some screw holes, there was no other body modifications from them. Some of the screws/bolts were really hard to get off, and I had to grind them off.

Lol Grandpa ... Ill be keeping mine as I live in vancouver bc a temperate rainforest where (tons o rain) and don't need the clearance.

OTOH, I've seen folks re-shape them (removing some material) and/or paint them a dark color, and then they look kind of cool. So maybe another option.
Never thought of changing colour of mine.. interesting

Welcome !
Sharp looking van with lots of modding potential. Love the open space in back for whatever you want. Could be a great bike area with some mods....?

Cool! I was just in Zion and Moab (and Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Joshua tree, Denver, Golen) last month on my 2700 mile road trip! I could have definitely used my SMB then!
