1st Trip of the Year - A 5 Day Shorty

Why go south.....so we went north into Michigan's Upper Peninsula near the shore of Lake Superior. It was the annual Whitefish Point 'Spring Fling' birding event. Time to see hundreds of hawks and eagles migrating north for the summer.

3 minute slide show of our up north 5 day trip:

nice little slideshow, thanks for sharing!

still a lot of snow there. we didnt get squat this year. gonna be another summer full of fires

that hawk didnt look real happy, lol.

we went camping this last weekend in an area neither of us had ever camped. we saw (and heard) a lot of different birds. was kinda mad we (both my sister and myself) forgot our bird books.

Snow "makes up" for last years lack of snow. The U.P. had a very major forest fire last year. VERY dry.

Hawk was happier about one minute later.

We have Thayer Birding on our laptops. Very nice.

Nice pics. Very impressive how much water is going over the falls. The lower ones look completely different than in summer.

It was about two years ago we took a weekend geocaching & brewpub trip across the UP in mid-May. We were walking on the shore of Lake Superior near Muskellounge Lake in shorts and t-shirts in the afternoon and the next morning we woke up in the Jeep with everything covered in snow. It changes fast sometimes!

Yes, in the summer our kids (and us) used to wade in the lower falls. Summer most of it is just a rapids.

This time of year the flow is around 40,000 gallons per second over the upper falls.

Wanted to hit the pub for both good food and good beer but we ran out of time.

Great photos. Have never been to the UP, will add it to my ever growing list.
