Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup

We're in (me, my wife and possibly my dog). I know nothing about the area, but I have this book arriving this week. If anything looks good, I suggest it here.

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup

Just suggestions from last years meet. Nobody has commented on what they can or want to do.

I'll start off.
<>I want to camp in a isolated spot with plenty of cover & space between me and the next guy. I guarantee if I'm there you will want some clearance between me and you

<>I would like to do a few off road adventures as a group but willing to explore with 2WD folks also.
<>Don't need a CG but others might. I just want to stay away from "campers" if possible. Post if you will need a bathroom! That can make a hugh diference.
<>I really would like a nightly fire if possible.
<>Fishing would be cool but not necessary.
<>I am going to bring a small scope.

All of this can change depending on the attendance.

Rob & Steve, Throw out a few 395 spots so we can all see what to expect. I don't know much about premium spots below Tioga Pass. Still pushin for something in the pine trees if doable.

Also there is a possibility that the passes might close that late in the year and I can't afford to get stuck overthere. The acorns are falling already which says early winter.

After the 20th location is set we can address a possible mini meet for those who can't make it Oct 20th or the 395 area.

Uh, please explain. Attendance may drop pretty quickly.

I'm sure its intended only for protection from zombies, which have been known to visit SMB gatherings.

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup

It's true, Herb, eastern CA is loaded with zombies.

I know the 395 area very well. I'm checking dates to see if I can make it. I had led an SMB trip to Death Valley early in 2008 (or 9?). I can offer advice on locations. There are a LOT of them.

Would love to attend but the wife booked us for something not as good as the trip you all have planned.

How about the Bishop area? We haven't checked that off our list this summer and haven't done it in an SMB.

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup

Good scenic places where we can meet and camp:

The Alabama Hills, behind Lone Pine.
Up Mazourka Canyon to the top of the Inyos, great views.
Reward Mine, Inyo Mtns.
Along Silver Canyon Road, and better yet, up that road to the top of the White Mtns (Patriarch Grove).
The Buttermilk hills area, fabulous views and camping.
One of the many campgrounds along Bishop Creek on the way to North Lake, Lake Sabrina or South Lake.
Along fish slough road towards the Chalfont Valley.
Some secret places I know off Lower Rock Creek Road.
Cerro Gordo Road behind Keeler into the Inyos.
A few trails into the canyons near Mono Lake.
One of the many areas at the north and south ends of Mono Lake such as South Tufa (so.), or Black Mesa (no.).
As mentioned, Coyote Canyon near Bishop.
