2010 Forum Meetup Weekend

The 2010 Forum Meetup Weekend will be Saturday May 8th to Sunday May 9th. This is a time to create and attend a locally organized event to meet SMBers in your area.

The idea is to stay local, short drives and spend one night with other SMBers. Feel free to vary for your local meetup, but hopefully this weekend can be kept free for these events!

Each area needs someone to volunteer to organize... if you want to see this happen in your area, you should volunteer. I will sticky any threads for local meetups on this weekend (email me to ensure timely response).

Re: 2010 Forum Meetup Weekend

Anyone want to push the date up a little for 4-corners? We are just starting the planning process to be there 4/23/10 - 5/1/10.
Any interest in touring Canyon De Chelly and or Monument Valley during that time frame?

Knew much more about it when I lived in AZ, but I know that it used to be required to have a local guide ride with you in Canyon de Chelly. Not sure if that has changed or not. Lots of loose sand BTW. Absolutley beautiful there.

We might be in for that.

You need to hire a native guide to drive your vehicle into Canyon de Chelly. Or you can ride in their old WWII trucks for a fee. We did that and it was worth it. Driving your own vehicle makes the sightseeing impossible; and there is much to see. And I would highly recommend taking a ranger led hike down into the valley. We took off our shoes and forded the river at least 4 times.

Re: 2010 Forum Meetup Weekend

Any Sportsmobilers in the Las Vegas area? I just bought my Sportsmobile in October 2009 and would love to link up for a Sportsmobile camping weekend with other enthusiasts. I've run into two other Sportsmobiles while camping at the Valley of Fire, but both were from outside the Vegas area.

Re: 2010 Forum Meetup Weekend

S/W Weekend
Okay did a little more research.

How about this for a Southwest Weekend at Canyon De Chelly
  • Morning of day one, Meet and Greet
2x4 & 4x4 split up. 2x4 either tour the Canyon rim or take group guided tours.

    4x4's
  • Afternoon of Day One. Enter the Canyon with a guide.
One guide would ride along with one of us staying in contact with the group via radio. The half day rate (3 hours) for the Guide depends upon the number of vehicles. [/*:m:21m8vpzb]
  • Night One: Stay in the Canyon. The guide I am working with has four possible campsites. The guide will stay with us and provide storytelling around a campfire. Cost for the overnight varies on the number of campers. ($80/person)[/*:m:21m8vpzb]
  • Morning of day 2, spend another 1/2 day (3 hours) in the Canyon touring the sites with the guide.[/*:m:21m8vpzb]
  • Afternoon of Day 2 spend touring the public access points outside the Canyon.
Night Two: Group camp outside the Canyon.
Day 3 to be determined... [/*:m:21m8vpzb]

Below is the cost for up to five vehicles (4x4 rated)
Tour Divided Cost
1 vehicle $150
2 vehicles $105
3 vehicles $90
4 vehicles $82
5 vehicles $78

Add for overnight fee $80 per person

Saline still interested?
Others?

Re: 2010 Forum Meetup Weekend

Charlie 56,
Beautiful picture. I am sold. I am for taking a ranger guided hike, going on a tour in the guides vehicle so I can see the sights and not drive and driving to touring the rim with the 2x4. You name the date, I will be there.

Re: 2010 Forum Meetup Weekend

Looks awesome. $400 for the family of five plus the other fees gets pretty pricey for one night.

But there are always options.
Take the 4x4 canyon tour, then camp outside the Canyon at the free campground.
