Re: 2010 Forum Rally!

Well maybe not that fully in the East, but if you want to organize something in Ohio or Smokey Mountains area, there is no reason not to have an annual East Coast Annual Rally too.

Im in for sure! I might be running solo tough time for the wife to get away. Remember Dogs have to be on a leash in the Park. (Bummer)

Re: 2010 Forum Rally!

We are in.....always wanted to see the park from more than just the highway as we passed through. I can assist in some of the grunt work. Let me know.

Re: 2010 Forum Rally!

We should get reservations for what 6-8 SMB's asap.

How about the weekend of July 23-25th

Maybe ED could pick the Camp Ground or some other wilderness spot for ground "O" and we can trip from there. Im not really into cruising around on paved roads. But fishing and so hiking and some offroad exploring sounds great.

and those of you that would be coming thru Jackson Wy on the way can camp in my yard if need be.

Re: 2010 Forum Rally!

I'm going to write up a few suggestions for the meetup and I will post them here today or tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can attend with summer plans having been poured in concrete last fall. Yup, I'm finally learning to plan big vacations ahead of time!

I'm going to be a conference in Las Vegas July 22-25 and then fly back to Helena on a Monday, load up the van and drive to the Yukon for three more weeks.

Still, there is a lot to do and see around and in Glacier with some interesting gravel or dirt roads for backcountry driving.

Re: 2010 Forum Rally!

Okay, here's the first suggestion.

A good place to start out is at the Big Creek Group Campground on the Flathead National Forest on the North Fork Flathead Wild and Scenic River, just four miles south of the NF entrance to Glacier National Park on the west side. This place is 30 miles northeast of the small town of Columbia Falls, Montana in the Flathead Valley.

The group site is booked solid for most weekends already, but is available from Sunday night, July 25th thru Friday night July 30th on ReserveAmerica. I would start here and maybe move after a couple of nights.

More suggestions to come this evening after I survive another excruciatlingly dull day at work.

Re: 2010 Forum Rally!

Umm...the all forum rally discussions seem to have faded. It does seem like a lot of work to get something put together for glacier especially with limited group site availability, plus a commitment it seems, most of us are not ready to make. Should we try again with a different location, one that is a little easier to organize. Anyone have any thoughts on changing locations, suggestions...

Re: 2010 Forum Rally!

I'm still up for one. I know of several good routes, camping, sightseeing etc. on the west slope/Utah area that would be great.

Re: 2010 Forum Rally!

Im should be able to make it just about anywhere within 500 miles. How about Jackson Hole? there wouldnt be to much off roading but I know of some great camping places that would have all the room we would need. And Great Views.
Here are some Ideas
1. Granite Hot Springs (1st come 1st serve)
2. Gros Ventre (Slide Lake)
3. Kelly Camp Ground (fills up quick)
4. Sheep Goulch Meadows. (I really like this place its about 6miles of dirt road and open camping)
Not to mention Yellowstone NP

Just some Ideas
