49th Parallel M&G 2014

At the Sunday campfire during the Jackson M&G, Ron asked who was going north next. I realized we weren't, thanks to commitments back home. So, BC is on our radar for 2014. Would anyone be interested in a M&G north of the 49th parallel and south of the 66th next summer?

We're going to do a 3 week PNW tour next summer. It would be sweet if we could swing it!

I'm planning on heading back to Alaska next summer, so maybe on the way.

In a month or so I will start a thread about planning my trip and see if there is any interest in meeting at various places in the 50th state.

My thread is similarly motivated. We plan a longer journey next summer, including Canada but we haven't broached to topic of #50; we're flexible and happy to help organize something if there is interest.

I'm also planning on heading to Alsaka next summer, so if in April or late September, early October, I could be in.

Re: 49th Parallel M&G 2014

Alaska 2014? Hmmm. we just camped at Trail Lakes Campground (US FS) last weekend which includes a day use area on Kenai Lake, nice clean outhouses and great views. It is locate at Crown Point AK, about 30 miles up the Seward Hwy from Seward, AK It has a really nice separate group camp space with room for about Id guess 15 vans and a huge shelter and fire pit. Sign says it can be reserved for $150K/ night, well water, pit toilets (that might be a deal breaker for some, but Seward is nearby with showers) and lots of bugs LOL last weekend but amazing views and paddle access to the Kenai Lake and that big log shelter if the weather gets raw. Has a volley ball court in the middle as well. The regular camp site pads are all nice and large and spaced for privacy. It is also about 30 miles from the junction to the Sterling Hwy and the road to Kenai and Homer. And Johnson Pass and Devils Pass are nearby for the hardy hikers or bikers. Anchor Point on the lower peninsula has a great campground also for groups but is full when the tide is right for claming or the fish are running. Another great meeting spot might be the Homer Spit, but only during the week. Weekends are a zoo on the spit in the summer.

Sorry AK does not any public campgrounds up here with showers despite are oil wealth (The only good thing whats her name did was raise taxes over 50% on Oil producers-before she, bless us quit) The season is too short and the winter too harsh to install modern plumbing I guess.

This a poor I-photo of the view from site 83 Trail Lakes at 10 PM.

Re: 49th Parallel M&G 2014

Yeah, kinda steep at $150k...I mean didn't we buy the whole state for less than $10M?

I might be up for something in BC or AB, but that's a long way off. AK is a bit too far (actually, WAY too far).

The Rockies national parks are a logical destination, but maybe something closer to the border near other destinations, like maybe Glacier (US)/Waterton.

We are also talking Alaska next summer, with a PNW stop to start it off, have friends in Seattle, so we'll be hanging there for a few. Looking at starting out in June, would love to meet up, get something going as it gets closer. Starting to tackle projects on the rig for the long haul...Also looking at possible inside passage cruise....
