Adventure Van Expo - Tahoe

Is anyone going to the Expo in Tahoe in early September?

We plan on being there for the start of our 3 week road trip.

This will be our first time in the Tahoe area. Anyone with recommendations on boondocking sites near the Homewood resort? Or in the area? Any campground recommendations?

Thanks.

I may run up there. I have it on my calendar if I don't have anything else going on.

I'm free that weekend and planning on driving down. Anyone know of a good spot to camp near by?

adventure expo

HI,

We live in Truckee and haven't decided if we're are going to the expo.

As far as camping, check out DLBliss, Sugar Pine and Emerald Bay. They are south of Homewood. If you want to check out South Lake, then look for private and city campgrounds that are right in town.

Boondocking is a little difficult on the west shore. You start getting into wilderness areas and/or housing. The closest area that I know of is out of Blackwood canyon. It connects up to 4x4 roads and the Rubicon trail. Get good maps.

We tend to go north up Hwy 89. Developed campgrounds are around the lakes - Donner, Boca, Prosser, Stampeed, Independence lakes. More campgrounds right off of 89 but I think it's a little noisy with the traffic. There are miles and miles of 4x4 roads up 89 North that you can take your pick from.

Hope this little bit of info help. If need more detailed info just send a msg.

Kelly

I’ll be there. Heading up from my home in Grass Valley. Depending on where you are coming from there’s some nice camp spots off of Hwy. 20 out Bowman Lake Road. A fun dirt road, several lakes on the way to Bowman Lake itself, which also has camping. Almost two hours from Homewood though. Otherwise up 89 there are several campgrounds. Plumas Eureka State Park is a good one outside of Graeagle. If you take the dirt road past the actual campground there are some great remote spots. Anyway, say hello if anyone here ends up in Homewood. I’m in a gold E350 EB, all Aluminessed up.

I talked to ranger for that area last week and they told me the road to Bowman is closed at the bridge section. They are rebuilding the bridge. But up to there is ok.

Bowman Lake Camping en route to Adventure Van Expo

Dig255, The bridge to Bowman Lake is in fact down, and they may have closed that section of road recently due to construction, so if anyone is heading out there you may not be able to get past that spot. However, I was out there July 28 and was able to easily drive around the bridge, see photo below. Even if you can’t get past there, there are still some nice options between Hwy. 20 and the bridge. But do keep in mind this is quite a ways from the ADV Van Expo.

I was planning to spend Friday night at the east end of Sterling Lake where there is a great lakeside spot that I've used years ago. However, the Tahoe NF map shows the access trail to that spot as closed now. I'll check it out and if closed and can't find another spot in the area I may just stay in the "real" campground on the west side of the lake. Will be at AVE Saturday unless plans change for some reason.
