adventure expo
HI,
We live in Truckee and haven't decided if we're are going to the expo.
As far as camping, check out DLBliss, Sugar Pine and Emerald Bay. They are south of Homewood. If you want to check out South Lake, then look for private and city campgrounds that are right in town.
Boondocking is a little difficult on the west shore. You start getting into wilderness areas and/or housing. The closest area that I know of is out of Blackwood canyon. It connects up to 4x4 roads and the Rubicon trail. Get good maps.
We tend to go north up Hwy 89. Developed campgrounds are around the lakes - Donner, Boca, Prosser, Stampeed, Independence lakes. More campgrounds right off of 89 but I think it's a little noisy with the traffic. There are miles and miles of 4x4 roads up 89 North that you can take your pick from.
Hope this little bit of info help. If need more detailed info just send a msg.
Kelly
