Alaska this summer

Anyone heading up?

Looks like we will be in Alaska from mid-June till the end of July. Want to meet up for a day or two?

No reservations yet. But, the last two trips we neither had nor needed reservations. Got Denali reservations at the park. Currently thinking about 3-4 days at the Teklanika campground and a Teklanika bus pass for the park.

Depending on weather conditions, I'd like to visit Deadhorse, Homer, Denali, Kennicott, Manley or Circle Hot Springs, and more.

I start my trip next Monday by heading from CA to Iowa to visit family.

Mike

Re: Alaska this summer

Mike -

Here's a link to the blog my wife kept on our trip to Alaska last year. May give you some ideas.

http://jachofamilytrip.blogspot.com/

One out of the way place we visited that we hadn't originally planned was Childs Glacier. You have to take a ferry to Cordova then drive out to Childs Glacier. It has a pristine campground and you will stay up all night watching and listening to the glacier in total amazement (at least we did). The old railroad bridge near the campground has been repaired from a long ago earthquake (or flood??) and is OK to cross although the sections don't line up too well anymore. I wish we had stayed there two nights. This place also had the worst mosquitoes of the entire trip, but don't let that stop you from going.

Have a good trip.

Phil

Re: Alaska this summer

I'll have you know that Iowa is a good place to be from. Way far from.

There are only two reasons I don't live in Iowa anymore:

- Summer

- Winter

I have had work ties and ties via friend's families for about 20 years...... and I never miss an opportunity to not visit Iowa.

Re: Alaska this summer

My wife and I will be up there for a month in July. We'll be leaving from Wyoming with not much of a plan. Hope to see the state and get a feel for it then maybe head back each year and explore the different areas. I'm in and out of Valdez alot and hope to give my wife the 'grand' tour. That's about the only 15 mins. of vacation we've planned. We'll be on the look out for you...

Bob
