Any good spots around santa barbara?

Splitting my drive next friday night driving and figured that the area around santa barbara would be a good place to stop, before heading to San Francisco the next day.

If you're heading north and enjoy beach camping, suggest you check out Jalama beach near Lompoc. It is about an hour north of SB, off hwy 101. This is one of the few places in CA where you can legally camp right on the beach (in some of the campsites). The setting is beautiful and if you hit it midweek, it should be uncrowded too.

El Capitan is nice too. There's also Gaviota.. which is like camping in a Parking lot.

YOu can also take San Marcos Pass (Rt 154) an camp at Lake Cachuma. There is also some backcountry routes back there if you have some extra time and don't want to camp in an organized camp ground.

Santa barbara

Rufugio is great, if going up Hwy 1, Montana de Oro in Los Osos. It does have water and vault toilets, Pismo Beach has sites on the water. Morro Bay state Park is nice and they have showers too. Also near
Santa Barbara is McGrath.

I second Jalama and El Capitan. Jalama is a pretty drive in but it takes some time (maybe 30 minutes from the 101). If you go to Jalam have the Jalama burger at teh little store.

If you just want to pull of the 101, El Capitan is very convenient, pretty too and a comfortable campground.

Gaviota I would skip.

Have Fun!

Joe,

Another option is Figueroa Campground.

http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/lospadres/recre ... /#figueroa

It is not too far off of the 101 and would likely be less crowded than the beach spots on a Friday night. This time of year, you should be pretty good crowd-wise anywhere though.

Other options look good too. Have a safe trip.
