Anybody ever cross into the Baja through Tecate?

We are finally getting ready to head to Baja tomorrow from Palm Desert. We will camp close to the boarder and head out early to make it as far south as possible. Just wanted to get some quick advice before hand...

Anybody know any campsites close to the border near Tecate?

Anybody know where to get tourist visas when in Tecate?

Anybody that has ever crossed in Tecate have any other advice?

Thanks...

Re: Anybody ever cross into the Baja through Tecate?

I've crossed at Tecate, and it's a great border crossing. Very little traffic. As far as camping or visas, don't have any idea. We don't stay in the area and have Mexican FM2's so don't need to get visas each time.
So, Veg Hed, I'm not much help 'cept it's a good border crossing.

Re: Anybody ever cross into the Baja through Tecate?

Last October when we came out of Baja we went through Tecate. Really easy to find. I camped at Lake Morena County Park. It is just a few miles from Campo. Really nice park. Campo is only 16-20 miles for the Border crossing at Tecate. We drove from Bahia de LA to Tecate in one day with no problems. Great time of the year to go to Baja!

Ahoy captainkettel! Are you headed to the Mojave this spring?

We are headed to Death Valley NP and points south starting in mid-March. It was fun running into all the other SMBs at Mesquite Springs campground in Death Valley two springs ago.

Re: Anybody ever cross into the Baja through Tecate?

Ed, I'm going to be heading south the first week of March. I am going to go to Anza Borrego for the Spring Bloom. They have had quite a bit of rain. It should be one of the best in years I've been told. From there not sure yet. I took March through July off from work to test the waters and see if I am going to retire. So who knows! Maybe I will see you on the road. Might even hit Montana this early summer.
