Anyone interested in doing the Washington Backcountry discovery route?

I had intended to join a small group of folks who are doing the Washington back country discovery route in July, but that group quickly got really large (25+ vehicles) and having done large group trips in the past, I know it can become a bit of a chore keeping the group together, getting gas, finding camp sites, etc. So, I’ve decided to run the route sooner and from North to South and I’ll start near the Canadian border. I hope to depart around June 5th or 6th in hopes of avoiding some of the crowds and to reduce the possibility of fires impacting the route. If anyone would like to join up, it would be fun to have a few SMBs along. There is a GPS route available for free download, and Butler maps sells one that is to be used in conjunction with the published GPS route. It’s possible that there may be snow at the higher elevations, but there are plenty of bypasses to avoid sections that are impassable due to snow or difficult terrain, although I understand almost all of the route is passable with just a high clearance 2wd. Additionally, there are numerous places the route crosses pavement, so one could just do parts of it and then head for home or where ever. I have not done extensive research though as I prefer to simply take things as they come and find campsites on the fly. Anyone interested in joining up?

How many days are you thinking? I may be able to sandwich it in or meet you part of the way. I’m in portland and had a trip planned for Wednesday next week but my buddy hurt his back and now I’ve been filling my stupid calendar at work again. I’d really like to hit it from Chelan area south.

The entire route is nearly 600 miles, and I don’t really know how long it will take but I do have one other commitment starting June 15, so I may not complete the whole thing at once. I still need to get my muffler replaced as it pretty much fell off on the last trip, hopefully the muffler shop can fit me in on Monday, and hopefully could be underway by Wed.

I would love to do that route. Just not in June. Have family visiting for the entire month plus a wedding to attend. Hope you all have a good time.

I'd normally be all over that invite, but already committed to a group doing a 5-8 week trip on the Continental Divide Route.
