I had intended to join a small group of folks who are doing the Washington back country discovery route in July, but that group quickly got really large (25+ vehicles) and having done large group trips in the past, I know it can become a bit of a chore keeping the group together, getting gas, finding camp sites, etc. So, I’ve decided to run the route sooner and from North to South and I’ll start near the Canadian border. I hope to depart around June 5th or 6th in hopes of avoiding some of the crowds and to reduce the possibility of fires impacting the route. If anyone would like to join up, it would be fun to have a few SMBs along. There is a GPS route available for free download, and Butler maps sells one that is to be used in conjunction with the published GPS route. It’s possible that there may be snow at the higher elevations, but there are plenty of bypasses to avoid sections that are impassable due to snow or difficult terrain, although I understand almost all of the route is passable with just a high clearance 2wd. Additionally, there are numerous places the route crosses pavement, so one could just do parts of it and then head for home or where ever. I have not done extensive research though as I prefer to simply take things as they come and find campsites on the fly. Anyone interested in joining up?
