Anyone know a good place to Park/Camp in Las Vegas
Looking for a good place to camp in or near Las Vegas. Has anyone stayed in Red Rock Canyon area?

Once you get to the actual redrock canyon area, there's no place to "Bivy" on the side of the road as they are always on the lookout for climbers trying to crash for free. We did two things.
A) While climbing at Redrocks, there's a campsite there that you have to pay for near the entrance. I think it's like $15 or $20/night. BTW, the water there is potable but tastes TERRIBLE: fill your tank before you arrive.
B) Then, we went into Vegas proper and... went into a casino parking garage (free) and simply pulled the curtains and stayed there. Just be careful that it's not too low for the SMB. I think ours tops out at 8'2", and this one was 8'4". We barely made it.

Thanks for the info, do you know the legality of drinking beer in an RV. Can you get a DWI, while parked?

In IL, only a hired driver can allow drinking and not get DUI/Open Liquor for the party or himself(driver is not drinking of course)....parked or driving.
- You can get a parked DUI if you are drinking and parked in IL. I know someone who was parked, engine off and got a DUI!
- The one exception is a designated parking lot during tailgating! IL recently clarified the law to curtail tailgating in non designated areas and parklands. Prior to then, the tailgating was illegal but not enforced
Every state is different. It is best to keep drinking at the destination, but beware of possible DUI implications in/around the camper.

Re: Anyone know a good place to Park/Camp in Las Vegas
I will be heading to Las Vegas next month for a work conference. I have a college reunion just after in LA. I am thinking of taking the SMB and exploring some more of Death Valley with a few extra days on the front end, then maybe a night in Mojave Preserve on the way to LA. I read today that Vegas is a hot spot for car thefts and break-ins. Does anyone have some tips regarding secure parking in Vegas for two nights? Thanks.

If you park in a parking lot or garage stay in well lighted areas close to entrances to the buildings. Look for the surveillance cameras and park under/near them. For the most secure area use Valet parking at the casinos. They will probably put your Sportsmobile up front because of its height. Valet parking is free with just a small tip when you depart. All of the RV campgrounds at the casinos should be secure and, of course, Red Rock and Valley of Fire Campgrounds are secure.

We camped at Circus Circus last year
Nice folks, nice rv store with food and rv stuff, clean facilities showers washer & dryer
Really just a big parking lot with hook ups
dont bother with the "delux site" is just has a patch of dead grass
Ya have to walk over to the CC door to get a taxi
CC clientel is a bit rough
We will use again when staying in LV so shows or play
If just passing thru, we would use Mojave Preserve or Valley of Fire
