Re: Anza Borego - With a Little Help from my Friends (needed
Are you 4x4?
Arroyo Salada is less that 0.5 mile from blacktop and any vehicle can get there. Some privacy because of the hills. I like this place for groups. It's also an entry for 4x4 trekking to all of the washes and cut across trails.
Directly across the road from that is Coachwhip Canyon and a favorite place of mine. I prefer the right fork and go to the end. Deep sand in places so generally not for a 2x4.
Coyote Canyon requires 4x4 as you get further back. Usually you can get to first stream crossing without 4x4 but there can be sandy places. Usually mosquitoes back at Lower Willows. An extreme 4x4 effort will get you up Collins Valley.
Rockhouse Valley is between those 3 places and is north of Clark Dry Lake. A coworker reported to last week that deep sand about 5 miles in on the 1st 9 mile stretch. After that the 3 mile usually low range right fork is almost un-passable toward the end due to summer floods rock rearrangements.
Fonts Point is a great van overnight place too. Usually sandy to get there. People generally don't camp there but it is not posted. Great sunrises a short walk up the path.
