I had a nice trip last weekend from Santa Barbara, CA to the Big Sur Coast. Left town on a blustery sort of rainy windy day and it made for a very scenic trip up the coast and some nice wet camping under the gorgeous redwood forest canopy. There was no one in the Big Sur State Campgounds, so we had full privacy in a most beautifull spot. As y'all may know, there no off roading in the area, except for some exposed roads up into the coastal range. We did that the last night and found a great ridge with a view forever. I also tested my new steps that mount onto the nerf bars, but quickly remove for inside storage. Big success. I hope you enjoy the photos.

When I tell people "I didn't ever want to look down a road and wonder what is down there" as my reason for wanting the 4x4 van, I'm talking about a gravel road that leaves Highway 1 right around Big Sur and my 1979 Chevy G30 that we were travelling in. I've never managed to get back to see what was down that road...
As always great pictures. Can't wait for the photo class at the Rally!
Great photo's , How did the step's work out for you ? Did you have any leveling issue's ? This is type of step that I am planning to use once our van is picked up this week .
Working out fine so far. I got it from JC Whitney. It's the two stepper, not the three. I had to weld on extensions to the supplied bracket and mount it to the two hangars for the nerf bar. I then use two Kant-Twist clamps to make sure it doesn't fall out of the drop-in bracket..

Did you hit Palo-Colarado Rd? It was a killer Rd way back even though there were cabins here and there. Haven't been there in years and might have changed since the 80s. Great pics Jeff!
Dave.

I spent a few nights down Big Sur way this last weekend. Went to Bottchers Gap campground at the end of Palo-Colarado Road to check it out. As a "primitive campground" it was a little disappointing. Mostly a paved parking lot with walk in sites. Once camp spot to pull a vehicle into and luckily it was available (no one else camping there except this odd Toyota Landcruiser motorhome thing). It was completely fogged in, so couldn't really see anything until morning when it cleared. It is a beautiful area and would like to go back to do some long hikes.
Palo-Colorado is a single and two lane paved road through beautiful redwoods and other mixed vegetation.
Headed up to Prewitt Ridge again for the second night. We were the only ones up there. Perfectly clear evening with never ending views out so sea and along the coast, but really windy through the night and morning.
