Best route from San Jose to Mammoth

Need to attend a family event in San Jose ahead of spring break, so we will be heading from there to Mammoth this year.

I would appreciate some input on which route to take. It appears that both US50 and US88 are now open. I know that 120 and 108 are closed for the season.

My priority is shortest drive time.

Any NorCal experts have a recommendation?

Thanks.
Rob

When Tioga pass is closed, I usually go Hwy 50. There is no "quick" way to get there in the winter from the Bay Area.

Enjoy.

Thanks, I had a strong feeling that 50 would be the best option. I'll be ready for a long day at the wheel.

Re: Best route from San Jose to Mammoth

Did this drive yesterday and it was a lot more enjoyable than I expected.

The 50 from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe is very scenic and pretty easy. The coming down 395 is always nice.

About 7 hours total, with a few stops along the way.
