Bugapaluza 2014

It was a sweet weekend weatherwise this past weekend so me and the kids joined a good friend and his family for a VW show near us. Bugapaluza 2014 in Chattanooga Tn. This is not SMB related so you purists can stop reading here but I know there a lot of air-cooled fans here so I thought I would share.
Sidenote: Drive and SMB to a bug show and everyone crawls all over it. I did not expect this, but I probably had 25 folks at least walk over to our camp to chat. It was a pleasant surprise. My buddy in his classic Westy was starting to get pissed. I've been trying to talk to him but he's busy shopping for SMB's I think.

Camp

Vittles

A few faves: 52 Split

favorite bumper sticker, I want one

and the only other Sportsmobile in attendance, chatted with this guy awhile, really cool people

Oh, and I found............

I know you West Coast folks are used to seeing tricked out classic VWs, but over here this is a pretty good gathering, probably 200+ cars and a lot of the really great ones weren't showing, just hanging out.

All this hippy love this weekend provoked me to dig out an old pic of my first car, a 68 Beetle. Bought it for $200 when I was 14 and transformed it in to a fun daily driver by the time I was 16. Man, why did I sell that car!!! I think it had something to do with air conditioning and babes.

Re: Bugapaluza 2014

That is a lot better than I expected. I thought warm weather brought out a different kind of bugs.

Some nice vdubs there.

Re: Bugapaluza 2014

some great looking vdubs man. your old one looked nice too

vw scene here is pretty weak compaired to places around us like slc, spokane, etc. but getting better. i have a bad taste in my mouth from spending a few summers in a air cooled westy. loved the touring, hated keeping that thing alive...

and are you rocking the same plate on the smb as your first car? if so thats badass!

Yep, lost it for years in my shop stuff and found it a couple years ago. Plus, it's my take on humanity for the most part.

Dave, ya that antenna dancer is on that 52 split, my favorite car there. He was with a VW club called "Street Panzers", which I thought was unique too.
