Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

Craig unless someone wants to change the location I’m still planning to meet around Edison Lake 17th through the 25th. I usually camp at Sample Meadows at this time of year. There is a lower campground below Kaiser Pass that is also nice. I’m feeling that a campground might make a better central location rather than boon docking at different locations, but I’m wide open to what others want to do. Both campgrounds offer trails nearby to explore. Some of the runs are 2 and 4X4 friendly. Here is a list of areas to explore in the Edison area.

2WD areas which are paved roads as a rule:
>The road to Edison Lake. This is a great drive for anybody but is narrow and somewhat busy at certain times of the year.

>The road to Florence Lake. This is a spur off the road to Edison.

>The road to Courtright Reservoir. Another nice paved road that passes a grove of giant redwood trees.

Further down from Courtright is Wishon Reservoir.

Trail/roads that are both friendly to 2 & 4WD:
>A full day trip is Dinkey Trimmer road to Pine Flat Reservoir then back up Sawmill Flat road. A 4x4 spur off Sawmill that is a great is Granite Gorge Overlook Trail. The Sprinters would probably have to stick to the Sawmill road.

>Balloon Dome is a scenic run for 2 & 4WD rigs. Mount Tom lookout is another spur that the Sprinters would have to pass by.

>Leaving out, the Big Creek RR Grade trail is nice and full of fall colors.

4X4 only trails:
>Brewer lake.
>Bald Mtn.
>Bear Diversion

I still don’t know who all plans to show up. Edison seems more or less central to California.

Keith and Debbie and Presley (the dog) will be there. Is this one of the roads?

It is almost due east from Dublin.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

Ya man! Never actually been to the hot springs but Bear Diversion is right around the corner.
Keith, I read you plan to be there toward the end of the week.

If we get the days when everybody plans to arrive we can make a plan. Being this is more of a meeting, the 25th zone should be 2WD friendly. Maybe we can all leave out together via the big creek RR trail on Sunday. It’s no problem for me to make it home from where it ends in Auberry but I would like to know how it would affect others.

I really want to hit Bald Mountain again and would prefer to do it during the previous week so it doesn't interfere with the meet.

Could those who wish to attend please post when they plan to arrive and what they want to do.

Dave.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

I'm thinking about it. I can't stay in most all campgrounds. Too noisy and civilized for me.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

So will this be a family friendly, or adult/ hermits only? I do understand about the campground atmosphere, but whenever you get a group together or bring kids with you (like I have) any camping gets noisey. I have never been up in that area and was thinking this would be a great first trip.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

Where ever I camp is family friendly. We don't have kids at home but still like them around.

Keith

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

The campground I'm thinking of generally has no one in it at that time of year. Not that the Chevy Chase family can't show up all of a sudden. Sample Meadows CG might have a few hunters in it but I won't use it if it has a bunch of people there. I also know of a few places to boon dock at but want to get a feel from those showing up if a head is needed. ALso it's very possible fire restrictions will be in place and a CG will be the only place to have a campfire. One of the boon dock spots is very close to Sample Meadows CG so the group could even split. Lots of options.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

Sample Meadow information . . .

http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sierra/recreati ... mple.shtml

Looks like a good place. Note that there is no water.

I need to find out when hunting season is . . . that could put a damper on things. OK, I visited the DFG site http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sierra/recreati ... mple.shtml and have no idea when hunting is. Hunter's today must be a lot smarter than when I was hunting to figure all that out . . .

Regards,

Keith
