Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

I think everyone is welcome. We all are either novices or were novices once. Nobody will make you do something you are uncomfortable with, nor will they make fun of you for passing on a section. And, not everyone is 4wd and not everyone is going on the trail runs.

Come one, come all. Come just to meet people.

Mike

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

I totally agree with Mike. Feel free to just come up and camp if you wish.

The Saturday run can be done with an automobile but travels through areas where the fall colors should be in full glory, at least I hope so. Here is a couple of pictures showing the road at the same time of year. [Edit...sorry folks the picture below is the RR grade Big Creek road. The picture below that is the Dinkey Trimmer Road. Both are similar roads in the same region]

You can see the road is really in good shape and I plan to check some of it out before the run but if you would rather explore on your own, we can give you all the directions you need for that as well. I also want everybody to feel free to camp close to each other if possible but if you want to camp away from the group the campground is fairly large and offers that as well. Everybody can visit as they please.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

I am going and plan to be there on 22ed and leave on the 26th. I will be in Saline Valley over Columbus day so it will be a long way around. I see that Mono Hot Springs are near Sample Meadow Campground so I will be stopping there on the way. Looking forward to doing some hiking and maybe an easy 4x4 or 2wd trail. Daveb, the pictures of the color changing trees look wonderful. Charles56, thanks for posting the map.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

Just an update for the meet.
SMB has my rig and I’m hoping it will be done on time but was told (at worst) it might not be ready until Oct 20th. If so, I won’t make Sample Meadows till the 21st. If they get the van ready on schedule I still plan to be there as early as possible. I did ask for the following Monday off so if anybody wishes to leave out via Big Creek to Auberry on Sunday, I’m willing to make the run with them and return to Sample for the night. It is a very nice 2WD run that will probably add an extra couple of hours to your trip home.

I always go home using that route so if things fail for whatever reason, it’s no skin off my back. Angel, if no one wants to make the Big Creek departure I’m willing to do something different like the short trip to Mount Tom lookout on Sunday if you’re up to it.

We can sort that all out up at Sample Meadows. Who knows, weather might change everything. I just do not want someone to show early and find I’m not there as I had planned.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

Dave,

Hope SMB finishs your rig on time. I'm always miserable when my van is in the shop, even if I'm not planning on using it.

See you at Sample Meadows.

Mike

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

Andrew,

Look forward to seeing you there. It is a great opportunity for you to see different SMBs and see how they hold up to use and abuse.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.

Sounds like we are going to have quite a crowd. Kathy and I plan on being at Sample Meadows on Thursday and head home Sunday.
