Re: Christmas in Vegas
Didn't know whether you meant driving or hiking, so I've given you both.
Driving: (estimates of round trip time)
Red Rock Loop (2 hours)
Valley of Fire (half day to all day)
Bitter Springs Scenic Byway (all day)
Lake Mead Loop (all day)
Lowell Canyon (half day)
Death Valley (all day)
Mount Charleston Kyle Canyon (only 40 minutes away)
Mount Charleston Lee Canyon (only 60 minutes away)
Mount Charleston Cold Creek Canyon (only 90 minutes away)
Mojave Preserve (half day or all day)
Hoover Dam into Arizona (depends on how far you go)
Laughlin and Oatman [Route 66] (all day)
Black Canyon/Nelson (four hours)
Zion National Park (a very long day)
Numerous dirt roads in the area to explore
Hiking (numerous trails in these areas)
Valley of Fire
If you are interested in discussing any these, send me a PM or email. Your sister should know most of these places. Depending on when you're going during the holidays, I might be able to show you around a little if you are interested. However, my wife reminded me the other day that the week between Christmas and New Years is time for me to be with her. But I might be able to sneak away for a wee little bit!
Have a great time in Vegas. Merry Christmas!
